D8 MA - A Duty of Care

It was chaos on the streets as Ilar loped towards the Cathedral of Dread. He'd seen Raela safely to her estate, but he had other obligations to see to as well.

There were refugees at the Cathedral, other aliens that he felt a pull to protect. He had nothing against the violence going on, but for it to be wasted against pointless targets was unacceptable. This lower strata of society needed a champion. Ilar was sure he wouldn't be their first choice, but he would have to do.

The guards at the door fire on him until they realize that he isn't a possessed lunatic and then let him in.

Ilar takes cover from the blaster fire until his intent is determined and is relieved when the shooting pauses for long enough to allow him to dash into the Cathedral's interior, pausing briefly to commend the guards on their efforts to protect the area.

Looking around he surveys the damage and tries to find someone in charge, probably Sister Sorrow or Lord Thorne, to see how he can assist in this time of need.

Sister Sorrow was barking orders and making sure the people were safe but she also seemed gleeful like this was a happy moment, it was a strange energy in the Cathedral. There was fear but also something like joyful revelation.

She turned from giving orders to look at a holo image of the city and discuss with others of the movement but it did not seem a private thing.

Ilar strode over to the gathering, his eyes focussed on the group and his senses picking up on the emotions. He ecpected to find the higher followers of the Word revelling in the chaos and fear.

He was not disappointed.

"The whole city trembles and quakes with the Fear of its occupants." He spoke reverently as he neared. "The Dread Masters must be ecstatic."

She smiled at the words, “Disciple, you are here to revel in the Dred that shrouds Ziost… the whispers that tear at the mind. The Dread Masters are most pleased, this world is baptized in madness and fire, and it is glorious.”

“It is good to see share this moment with you,” she said placing a hand on his shoulder.

“We have lost many brothers and sisters today, but they were found wanting and will not be mourned.”

"The flock has had the weak culled from its numbers and will be stronger for it." Ilar agreed with a nod as he gestired towards the insanity outside the Cathedral.

"When the Masters emerge from the ash of this insanity, we will be ready. Already the Council has turned against the Emperor. Strong leadership will be needed to fill the void that will be left no matter which side is triumphant."

“If the Emperor dies then the Dread Masters should rule by right as they were his favored,” she responded.

“Though I am told he is nigh impossible to kill.”

"If he vanquishes or is vanquished, the opportunity still exists for the Masters to serve at his side or ascend to a higher honour of ruling in his stead."

"Either way there will be more conflict before such matters of succession are resolved. But how may I help prepare for such a glorious day?"

"They are patient and for now Dread reigns, it is enough," she said with a smile.

"There is no shortage of work, for a Disciple if you are willing."

Ilar symbolically rolls up his sleeves. "Where shall I begin Sister?"

She offers him a chance to see to the wounded and administer words of Dread to the faithful and to keep their minds focused on the holy dread and darkness around them. She tended to making sure people had food s and places to sleep if this madness continued.

Ilar nodded in understanding, wandering the halls and ensuring that all the faithful were in the right mindset. Lecturing from the Word of Dread where it would help and being a little more mentally forceful where necessary.

The people listened and were moved to the right state of mind by the twi’lek Disciple which pleased Sister Sorrow. It was a beautiful thing to see these people gripped in fear and relishing the dread instilled by the events.

For several hours, Ilar tended to the flock, stirring up their fears and doubts. Heightening their emotions in conjunction with the effect the Emperor had instilled in them.

Then he looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good.

He decided then, that he could become stronger in the Dread and would strive to do so.

He could feel the approval of the Dread Masters upon him. If approval could be ascribed to them.

As the feeling of approval washed over him, Ilar wondered if he'd ever get to meet the Masters, he decided he'd ask the Sister about it when circumstances permitted.

But for now he had work to do.
