Raela sucked in a harsh breath as the adrenaline kicked in, jerking in the bed as she was whipped out of whatever dream she had been having under the influence of the Emperor's lightning. "Where am I?" She looked around, then focused on Xal. "Dr. Kimlya. Thank you."

"Take it easy." he advised. "I've treated your wounds, but one doesn't go through that without lingering effects."

He set down a glass of water for her. "What happened?"

"... The Emperor asked me to kill Ilar'shala or 'suffer his mercy'," she replied with a little bit of a shrug, accepting the glass gratefully and taking a drink to soothe her pained throat. "I chose the consequences, figuring what it would be."

Pacing back and forth like a caged manka cat, Ilar was greatly relieved after Raela regained consciousness. When she finally was able to speak, he just looked at her intensely.

"So when's the next transport off this thrice damned rock?"

He studied her for a moment, then nodded. "Your strength is admirable."

"Fear of death is a weakness. I'm not going to sacrifice a destiny that can benefit the Empire because that person gives me a mean look and a little shock," she replied, shaking her head. She looked toward Ilar. "I intend to see this through. Are you going to leave?"

"I still have much to learn from you apparently Master." Ilar replied, impressed by her stoicism and stubbornness. "If you are seeing this through, then you know I'm not moving an inch."

"Still. It is bold to openly stand up to him." he shrugged. "I cannot say if I'd do the same."

She let out a breath. "I don't regret my choice there, but it wasn't perhaps the wisest choice to open myself up through the proof of loyalty to begin with. Standing up to him publicly is a risk. But what's done is done. I wonder what the fallout will be?"

Righteous and satisfying, righteous and satisfying.... Ilar repeats over and over to himself in his mind, thinking more of the fallout he envisioned flowing uphill rather than down.

"You'll be watched more, I imagine." he said. "But, I'm sure every Aspirant is being watched closely."

"I'll have to be more careful. Speaking of being careful, how has your work been going?" She finally asked as she finished her water.

"Not as well as I would like." he admitted. "I accepted a position on the massassi project. That has limited some of my time for other things."

"Fascinating. I'd love to see what your work has produced there," she replied with a slight smile. "I've been working on a project myself... Hopefully something will come of it tomorrow. No rest for the weary."

"Never." He shook his head with a chuckle. "We should colobarate more."

She nodded. "Perhaps tomorrow we can work on Zash's project some and discuss our findings on other projects."

There is an incoming call from Zash.

Raela looked over and tapped the communicator to answer it. "Good afternoon, Master."

Xal nodded in agreement.

When the call came in his greeting was simple, respectful bow of his head..

"She'll recover fully."
