The Ice Queen Challenge
Event Type: Bonus Event
Influence Cost: None
Participants: Unlimited (Beach is open all Day to Everyone)
Timeslots: Mid Morning

Description: The Ice Queen festival is a chance to enjoy the beaches and challenge the dangerous waves of the sea in a contest of sport and grit. Using lightweight shaped boards one can surf on the ice-cold waves and attempt to dazzle the crowd with their ability to do deft defying stunts and survive the waves.

Those that excel are named Knights of the Ice Queen!

Rules: Players have three stages, well the first is optional, but highly encouraged. Players are assumed to be wearing bodysuits or swim suits for this endeavor.

The Zen of Waves (Optional)

The player can make an unaided Survival or Education check at Average. Every success can be used to add advantage to one of the rolls below and a Triumph can add a success.

Catch the Wave

The player makes a Hard Athletics check with a setback due to the size and strength of the waves to properly catch the wave, if they fail this step, they can proceed but upgrade the difficulty by one for the next step.

Advantage can be used in the following ways 2 advantage to give a boost die to the next roll or 2 advantage to grant a Style Point, these can be selected multiple times. Every 2 Threat grants a setback die, while a Triumph grants 2 style points regardless of success or fail; while a Despair means the player wiped out and cannot continue.

Master the Wave

The player must now make a Coordination check at Hard and try to pull off some fun tricks to wow the crowds. Again every 2 advantage to grant a Style Point, these can be selected multiple times. Every 2 Threat means suffering one strain, while a Triumph grants 2 style points regardless of success or fail; while a Despair means they suffer an accident and lose 3 style points.

Players that succeed on this roll and score five or more style points are named a Knight of the Ice Queen!

Rewards/Outcome: TBD

"Master Char, are you sure that this is a wise idea? You have several other engagements" L0-R3 gives his supposed "master" a quizzical look, or what counted as that for a droid.

"Lo, if I die, it will not be regretted the waves that I failed to catch. Besides, I have the chance to do some research!" Char is looking on the datapad, studying the recent geological surveys, weather reports and surf conditions. "You know me!"

Challenge the Icy Queen-Zen of the Waves-Destiny and Suspicion Upgrades: 5eA+2eC 3 successes
ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Char swims out into the icy water, trying to ignore the bone deep cold.

"Catch a riiiiide"

Challenge the Icy Queen-Catch the Wave-Hard Athletics-using 2 successes as boost: 2eA+2eB+3eD 2 successes, 1 threat
ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Challenge the Icy Queen-Impress the Crowd-1 Boost from success used: 2eA+1eB+3eD 4 successes, 5 threat
ImageImageImageImageImageImage

Char finishes the course, and doesn't manage to wipe out, but the last few waves rattle his nerves, and gets back to shore without making too much of a scene

Jo'ren rocked up in his Speedos. He was only wearing them because Shaisha had told him the Empire wasn't ready for his naked body on a board.

Looking up and down the beach he nodded. Waves. Check! Crowds. Check! Board. Check! Sense of adventure. Come on!

Somehow he managed to stay on the board despite the turbulence. He wasn't exactly doing tricks as much as wrestling the board and the sea into submission. It wasn't pretty but it was mesmerising.

Then he managed to do something completely unheard of. Although by all rights he should have wiped out, Jo'ren surfed clean into a wave, went straight through it, stayed on his board, and did a flip.

It was incredible. A total failure by the normal rules of the game, but he looked pretty stylish doing it. In Speedos. They were probably still on after all that...

((Bought information for one success on the knowledge test with suspicion upgrade))

"M'am....this is a surfboard...think of it as an unpropelled board you have to stand on."
"Uh-huh" Jan looks it over "....This is a beach thing?"
"It's a beach thing"
"Then I shall master it!"

Jan fails to master it, she and her board wobbling dangerously on the lip of a wave

(( Day 7 Challenge the Ice-Queen, catch the wave, one upgrade from Dapper Destiny: 2eD+1eC+2eA+1eS 1 failure
ImageImageImageImageImageImage ))

"Frak frak frak....okay...okay...I just got to stay steady and...is that a rock?"

Both rep and board conduct some fairly desperate if stylish manoeuvres to avoid said rock, it's unclear if they wipe out or not....

((Day 7 Challenge the Ice-Queen, Master the wave, destiny to upgrade once: 3eD+1eP+4eA 2 successes, 3 advantage
ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Master the wave, forgotten difficult upgrade: 1eC 2 failures

Alister was rather confused on how he got roped into beach activities. Hadn't he swore off this sort of thing already? Still if he was going to attempt it, he should at least know the basics. It was just physics right?

Sadly Things didn't go nearly as well as he planned, and the attempt was rather disatrous to say the least. He ended up breaking hsi board on a rock and ending up more then a bruised.

Jo'ren somehow convinced Shaisha to give this a try as well after she had watched his performance. "Alright, alright... but I blame you if my swimwear slips off!"

She got a very good read on the waves, understanding the mechancis of how she should try to take advantage of the momentum at the right time.

And as she started to ride the wave, she was doing very well. She was even laughing and smiling because it was a new kind of thrill she hadn't tried before.

At some point she managed to elegantly be wiped off her board.

Shelzais turned up at the beach in a white swimsuit rather better suited to a pinup calendar than a surfing competition. Sure, the water might be icy, but what even was the point of going to the beach if you were going to cover up? And anyway, what could be a better use of a Sith Pureblood's natural hardiness?

She didn't know much about the sport, but at least managed to look cool as a big wave knocked her board from under her feet. Pouting, she clambered back on and flopped onto her back to ride the back half of the wave in to shore, kicking her feet up in the air as she floated to amuse herself and the onlookers by showing off her well-turned legs.

by Dayana Valthren
Dayana had tons of swimsuits but none were particularly suited for the occasion. Still, she strode out with the confidence that many had come to expect of her.

The results were less than exemplary.

By the end of the ordeal, Dayana simply patted herself down and retained her composure. She had her dignity, at the very least.

by Lucinia Malveaux
Lucinia had seen other people do it. She had seen Jan do it rather well. Surely she could do it too, right?

But she didn't quite expect just how crowded it would be at the beach. Families were everywhere. People having fun. Children having fun. It was terrible! Perhaps that was why, instead of focusing properly on the waves, Lucinia glowered darkly at those around her.

While Lucinia's form was slender, the Force was with her. Even while surfing. With almost unnatural athleticism, she hauled herself atop the surfboard, just as it came in. Her green eyes were wide as she began to move. Red lips curled upwards, a victorious glint in her eyes. Perhaps she could try jumping...

"Whoops!" Lucinia was graceful enough to turn it into a very stylish dismount. But as she went over the wave, her surfboard kept going, and she did not. The surfboard flew gracefully forward, skidding into the surf. Lucinia... well, at least she floated.

"Blast." She muttered quietly as she walked back to shore. Raising one hand, she clenched a fist, and a nearby sandcastle crumpled.

At least that made her feel better.

Xyll was technically able to finish the course without falling on her ass... but she didn't exactly manage to do anything to make her look awesome while doing it. Oh well. At least she was having fun, skimming across the waves.

Everything was a little different now. For most of his life, Xal had been driven towards a specific goal, to establish a lasting legacy through his brilliant mind. He still intended to do that, but he now had much more time to accomplish it. So, he could allow for a few more distractions, to have a little fun.

He watched the waves, assessing their power and considering his chances. He wouldn't drown. His protection ring would ensure that. This could be interesting.

It was interesting, if not at all impressive. It was clear he had never done anything like it before, but it was a good effort. It may have even been fun.

Was Lord Bellious cut out for surfing? We were about to find out, though she already great in the surfing suit.

It looked like she was at the least one with the sea. Probably an outcome of conditioning herself of living by the sea here on Ziost. Twi'leks are dry land creatures, no?

MM7. Zen of Waves.: 3eA+1eC+1eD 3 successes, 2 threat
ImageImageImageImageImage

[3 Advantages, 2 Strain]

Now that the wave was coming, she recalled the wind conditions she discussed with Razzya in the morning. The irritant of her feet getting cut on a sharp stone was used to fuel her with a stronger drive. When the wave came, she slid right onto it and there she went, her lekku fluttering on the wind in spray!

MM7. Athletics. Enhance. Ritual. Using 3 Advantages. Ally Boost.: 2eA+2eF+3eD+1eS+1eB 1 failure, 1 advantage, 1 Light Side, 1 Dark Side
ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

[2 Pips into Successes, 3 Wounds, 4 Advantages into 2 Style Points]

Now, could she master the waves? It was hard... simple joy and exuberance swept her up, and though her twists and turns drew cheers from the audience, her ice queen credentials were not sufficient.

MM7. Coordination. Enhance. Ritual.: 3eA+2eF+3eD 1 success, 2 threat, 3 Light Side

[Pip to alleviate 1 threat]

Result: Success with 2 Style

Mahr was there on the beach with the waves caressing his feets and the wind his face. Looking over the horizon he gazed at the vast ocean. He looked pensive, contemplative...

He had no effing clue of why he was doing there

He grabbed a board, caught a wave and got wet...Imperial culture was dumb

Remmington was told by the doctor to take it easy after his arm healed up. So of course he is going to join into a surf competition in ice cold water. He tries to examine the waves to get the right feel for it but is just shy of fully grasping the wave in the right away. He gets to the top of the wave and goes for a stunt but ends up wiping out. Well at least he may be able to use this for a future swimsuit calendar.

/ The Zen of Waves.
Education/Int. 4eA+2eD+1eS = 0 Success, 3 Advantage

To a Mandalorian, their armor is their identity. He had tried to argue his way into wearing it while surfing, yet it simply wasn't there. Still, he opted to give it a shot in the body glove.

It did not end well. He only managed to at least stay on his feet, but it did not impress, least of all impress him.
