Description: Dalren Vis was hoping tonight would be a smash, it was to be the magnum opus of much politicking and influence peddling. The greatest names of the Empire would attend including the Emperor… how could this night go wrong?

No expense was spared, everything had to be perfect.

The playe needs to contract an artist or create a work of art.

Step 1

Choose one Option from below:

Option 1

Patron of the Arts: The player can contract an artists, this artist will have Presence 3 and an Artistry (Presence) skill of 2. They can try and find a better artist with a Negotiation or Streetwise check this is a Hard check, if successful they find an artist with Presence 4 and Artistry 2, and will cost them 500 credits success or fail.

Optional: They can expend 5 Influence and find a virtuoso, this artist has Presence 5 and Artistry 3 for their stats.

Create the Work: A simple aesthetically pleasing work is an Easy Artistry check, this is a safe piece of work and will not be remembered but hey you have something to present and won’t offend anyone.

An Average Artistry check presents a somewhat challenging work, which says something about the politics of the Empire but is non-specific. This will generate 5 Influence for the interesting work if successful.

A Hard (1 red, 2 purple) Artistry check criticizes someone specific usually of the level of the Dark Council or a powerful Darth or Moff in the Empire. Success here will generate 10 Influence and increase suspicion by 5, a Triumph on this roll negates the Suspicion and a Despair increases that Suspicion by 5. This increases the Difficulty of the next roll by 1.

A Daunting (1 red, 3 purple) Artistry check criticizes the Emperor directly and is a bold statement if pulled off. This will generate 15 Influence if success but increase Suspicion by 10 unless a Triumph is rolled. A Despair will increase that Suspicion gain by 5. This increases the difficulty of the next roll by 2.


Option 2

I Art Good: The player can try and create their own work of art this is a Presence based check based on the Artistry custom skill, as the player most likely does not possess this skill they will not be judged as harshly as Dalren encourages amateurs.

Create the Work: A simple aesthetically pleasing work is a Simple Artistry check, this is a safe piece of work and will not be remembered but hey you have something to present and won’t offend anyone.

An Easy Artistry check presents a somewhat challenging work, which says something about the politics of the Empire but is non-specific. This will generate 5 Influence for the interesting work if successful.

An Average (1 red, 1 purple) Artistry check criticizes someone specific usually of the level of the Dark Council or a powerful Darth or Moff in the Empire. Success here will generate 10 Influence and increase suspicion by 5, a Triumph on this roll negates the Suspicion and a Despair increases that Suspicion by 5. This increases the Difficulty of the next roll by 1.

Present the work to the masses and the Emperor, this is an Average Deception, Charm, or Education check, and Force abilities will not work as the Emperor and discerning audience are used to such manipulation.

A successful roll here grants 5 Influence.

Rewards/Outcome: Up to 20 Influence, Aspirants that earn 10 Influence can instead gain 1 Aspirant Point and if they earn 15+ Influence can instead gain 2 Aspirant points for 15 Influence earned in this event.

Tyr was angry about parting with his precious credits to hire an artist for some dumb party, but he liked the work of the slender zeltron. it was bloody and violent and filled with fire and passion, ghostly shapes writhed in blood and flame, screaming before a skyline of bone. The shistavanen didn't know if he really "got" the artwork, but he managed to string together some appropriately vague art appreciation sentences, leaving the Lords nodding as if they understood.

[Jun-Tsu Farro]

Though it was not a well known aspect of House Farro, they did appreciate the aesthetic arts, in so far as they paid homage to the Dark Side. Such was the way of the Korrizian witches, and so it was with Jun-Tsu. She was happy to attend this no-name gala, mostly because others, equal to her social standing were going, and once she had arrived and saw so many influencers arrayed, it seemed the perfect opportunity to commission an artwork.

She confessed to not knowing every artist of the core worlds of the Stygian Caldera, but that did not mean she was wholly without culture. She had brought one of the grand illustrators of Ziost to represent her house. It was not without cost, but Mai Chen Rai, had done many installations throughout Ziost's art community. Somewhat subversive, she specialized in those works which sought to challenge the empire. That said, what Jun-Tsu asked was beyond anything that Mai Chen had dared before.

The work produced, was, in its essence, a study in stellar phenomena, specifically the relation between occupied space and absolute emptiness. It seemed to call attention to the constellations of the Stygian Caldera, while confronting it with a vast emptiness that threatened it. There was little chance that the Emperor would not understand its meaning; A criticism of his absence, and the importance of the Empire as it rested, so precariously beyond the gulf from Republic space. Of course....deeper meaning could be drawn from it as well, but that was for the Emperor and the Emperor alone.

Jun-Tsu, upon the artist's completion, set the massive abstractionist piece before the assemblage, "Mein lordz und ladiez. I am proud to hawe comizzioned zhe brilliant artized Mai Chen Rai, to produce zhiz piece. It iz an artvork vhich, I hope conweize zhe veight of hiztory. Mein vamily, zince zhe time of zhe jen'jedai, haz born vitenezz to zhe rize und vall of empirez, und ve hawe learned vrom zhe eonz, zhat to maintain ztrengzh of zhe Empire ve need an Emperor who iz prezent und vorthvith."

"You want how much darling?" Char waves a hand into the air brusquely. "I thought you would love a sponsor after your little "I'm using my art training to sell forgeries to rich morons who can't tell the difference, oops, I might have gotten caught but WHAT DO I KNOW?" Char angrily cuts the call off and stomps around his flat.

"Artists, with their "I can't eat exposure, I need real credits", well NOT WITH THAT ATTITUDE YOU CAN'T!"

Char runs his hands through his hair and looks around. "Lo!" He calls to his Droid. "Do we still have the holo overlays, what was the thing, the hiding in plain sight trick we had to run on what one job? I can make something that will make a splash with those fools, and they'll be too dumb to notice."

LO-R3 gave what sounded like an electronic sigh. "Will I be needing to take hits to protect you again tonight Master?"

"Ayyyyyye wouldn't rule it out." Char waves a hand dismissively. "It's fine. Don't worry, it's fine"

Maybe it was a pet peeve, but Char had never been a fan of the "everyone in their place" part of the Empire. I quick search of the Holonet made easy work of finding some of the Dark Council's official propaganda holos, and the electronic tools that made is simple to isolate stills. From there, it was a bit of an artist's touch: finding places where they could mesh bits and pieces that other artists have copied. Each member of the Dark Council had their own propaganda, as best as Char could tell, and with a bit of fun, he copied slotted them together to the holo overlay...but at odds with each other. With some basic effects, the holo could be made to look artistically dated, but when a careful eye looked they would see the joke: the arranged forces of the Dark Council all squabbling and attacking each other, leading to a cyclical mess.

Subversive, perhaps. But would anyone call him out on it?

"Do you think you're clever?" There's a heavy voice as a stern individual seems to bore his eyes into Char's soul? He can't quite place the man.

The answer doesn't seem to be perfect, but no one is coming away to haul him off in irons, so Char is happy over his little joke.

Sylvain had gathered all the best supplies he could muster under the circumstances to create a piece which showed how the absence of the emperor had made the Empire weaker for lack of a strong authoritarian in charge. His own skill with the medium, however, simply could not match the quality of the other presenters.

He made his case well, enough... but ultimately his poor little painting was not worthy of significant attention.

[Rumun Gol]

Like he told both to Lord Bellious and Sister Sorrow some days ago, Rumun was a deep admirer of art and all types of cultural endevours. So an art gala was a natural place to him to be, even if he was somewhat suspicious for the imperial authorities.

Rumun was also a person who knew his own limitations, he was no artist, at least, not of art as understood by normal people. He had a different thinking of what was classified as art or not.

In any case, he goes looking for a good artist, willing to pay him or her, but unfortunately not many wanted to be patronized by an alien, so after a while trying to convince people, he had to settle with the normal artist that were not as prominent as the others.

The force acts in strange ways, and for pure luck, the artist that he got, was a male Twi'lek. Fascinating fellow, Rumun almost immediately became friends with him and he instructed to pain a very special picture.

Rumun could not help but smile a bit looking how the twi'lek worked the lines, red and yellow, black and grey, lights of all types. Once he finished, it was truly a very remarkable work of art. A city burning, an ecumenopolis, that somehow was reminiscent of Coruscant, but somehow it also looked like Nar Shaddaa. It was a weird mix of the two. In the background a tall broad sith, a man of great size, not fat, but not quite muscular either. The sith was a rather vague, but it somehow had 'an air' of Darth Baras. But surely that was just a coincidence...

Then Rumun went into the crowd, bowing respectfully and presented the work. '' My fellow imperials and sith. My Lords and Ladies, I present you a rather humble work of art, Une Ville en Flammes, inspired by the great deeds of those sith that day by day bring glory to our Empire.'' Rumun was brief, he did not wanted to delve to deeply in his explanation, so the crowd was confused by the meaning of this painting.

Was it treason? was truly a work of nationalistic and imperialistic pride? A mockery of Magpie's terrorism? Maybe an abstract picture about conquest?

Like always, Darth Hoshi's apprentice was an enigma.

[Remmington Thalalas]

Remmington thinks better than try to present try to create a piece of art himself and goes to some length to commission a talented artist to create something on his behalf. A 3D painting is on display of rats dismembering and devouring a cat. It is a critique of how the Emperor's long absence has encouraged some to dare rise up to challenge the power and authority of the Empire.

He has no talent for artist and tries to repeat what the artist told him but ends up droning on which may cause people to fall asleep. The presentation starts to sound more like a lecture. People quickly lose interest and do not even recall what the name of the piece is.

Okay. Making art without normal vision was surprisingly difficult. Dayana took a breath and went forward with her so-called 'painting.' Heck, she was not sure if her perception of colors even made sense to people.

At the very least, her natural charms were put to work. Somehow, despite her work of 'art' being essentially a bunch of blobs and lines, she had managed to spin it into 'post-post-post-modern art' due to the help of one eccentric patron feeding her more lines to spew out.

Jaheem had looked around for an artist worthy of creating a piece for Jaheem to bring to the gala, tapping a few contacts Jaheem did indeed find one such artist who had a wonderful portfolio, they were skilled at channeling fear, anger, hatred into beautiful tapestries of color.

However the work they produced was found severely wanting by the public, many scoffed at the painting and criticized it harshly and many criticized Jaheem as well for backing such a lack luster artist. Though their work carried a bit of social commentary. Jaheem attempted to explain this art to those around but his words fell mostly on deaf ears. In Jaheem's anger he broke the artist's hands badly his mood still slightly unstable from the events of this afternoon "Perhaps you will find a career you are better suited for in the labor camps."

Lady Winnie Quinn was thought of as a gentle soul; artistic and cultured. Truth was that the middle-aged lady was as hard as an acklay's carapace and as fierce as a rancor; only the most daring and challenging works would get her attention and she had made a career of avant-garde art that were often on the verge of being too much for the society to handle.

And Lord Tenebrous had managed to earn the favor of this crazy old lady, after some discussion and a bit of nudging, and she would have her daring piece.

Her hair still elaborately braided, Shaisha had changed out of her formal robes to something more fashionable. At a glance the ensemble seemed to be mostly black, but on closer inspection it was a deep midnight blue, trimmed with silver, and with lining that was reminiscent of the endless starry galaxy.

She didn't really care much for this art, other than what she thought looked nice (and she preferred fashion and music to paintings and tapestries), but the artist had truly delivered well what she had requested.

"Ah yes, esteemed guests," Shaisha spoke, standing calmly by the painting as it was unveiled. "Another stunning work of art from the great virtuoso of Ziost, Lady Winnie Quinn. So much that has inspired this work, so much we talked about over it..." blah blah blah blah. Her heart just wasn't in it to sell the lie, but it just ended up coming across as a tad pretentious (advantage).

The picture itself on the other hand was much more interesting than the presentation! The red and black banner of the Empire, its wheel broken and tattered, floating and half-sinking into a pool of water that seemed as vast and full of glittering stars as the galaxy. A man, whose face was mostly concealed by a dark hood, dressed in dark robes, held on to the banner... but not with any feelings of sentimentality. His hands were like claws, digging into the fabric, leaving gashes of the deepest black, like a void. His sharp teeth feasting into the blood red of the banner, devouring it with malice.

For some, it could've looked like any random Sith. For those who knew more of the Emperor though... the meaning was more obvious.

Unfortunately her reputation did not live up to expectation and the sculpture of a xufiyan spider in the middle of a meal getting simultaneously squashed by several rolled up newspapers wielded by obviously alien arms was not seen for the subtle mockery of Darth Hurn that it was intended to be.

Xyll had contracted what was supposedly the best artist on all of Ziost.

This was a lie.

The work wasn't terrible perhaps, but the subject matter; the emperor himself; demanded certain standards that simply weren't met. And to make matters worse, Xyll failed to properly present it. She blathered on about the juxtaposition of the duality of this or that and some such.

It was all just... a waste of time.

Mahr was now on a new cultural crusade...for the moment, at least.

While the display was not what many would have expected, there was an odd appeal to it: The head had been taken from the eagle bois Mahr had slain a few days earlier and their expression of terror was frozen for posterity. They were hung on the solidified fresh spine from one of their leader. A single massassi glyph was carved on their foreheads and on each of the vertebrae.

Though she'd studied visual art as a young noble scion before her Dark Side training began, Shelzais rarely painted anymore these days. On the other hand, she had slept with a few artists lately, and she reckoned that ought to have kept her skills sharp.

Unfortunately, she was mistaken.

Dressed in an artistically casual, figure-hugging jumpsuit that might have seemed too informal for the occasion if it hadn't been made in a fabric resembling liquid chrome, Shelzy unveiled her piece, a rather amateurish holocollage that appeared to show a grand throne towering over a glittering spill of city buildings at night. It was a little too obvious that the giant throne also resembled... a refresher seat. Intentional or just incompetence?

Alas, Shel's explanation of her artistic goals was not at all illuminating to most of the audience, though she did attract the interest of one or two collectors... even if it was possible they were more interested in the artist's personal curves than her use of shape and chiaroscuro.

Lucinia was an occasional procurer of art, but never a producer. And she only rarely did that. There was a form of artistry in research, in books, and in the power of the Dark Side. Paintings and such mostly meant wasted time, and more pictures of old dead people.

Nevertheless, she had resolved to become more involved in politics as of late, and this would be an opportunity for that. And so, she went down to the local art college, grabbed the first painter she could find, and demanded a work of art. In the end, that was what she got.

"What is this?" Lucinia demanded, shaking the image. The painter shrank away. "I asked for a work highlighting the flaws of the Empire in a subtle way, with an eye towards improving them! This is... this is just a bunch of shapes!" And indeed it was; circles, squares, triangles, and more.

"I... I'm sorry, milady! I don't know what that means! And I'm an abstractionist!"

Well, in the end, it was a free painting. Lucinia restrained herself from anything more than a few comments on how the artist should go find a real career.

And, while the art may not have been saying much, if there was anything an educated person like Lucinia could do, it was go on about a bunch of shapes in a way that sounded intelligent.

[Lord Bellious]

Lord Bellious used her influence in the Intelligence to find a particularly talented artist, one called Sybank. The effect was a large monochromatic mural operating in shades to present a vision of a master of puppets' hands pulling the strings of an assortment of Force Users with their lightsabres drawn. The figures were blurred, but the lightsabre tones were on two scales of brightness, making lighter from darker distinguishable on closer look. There was a seemingly boundless sea of corpses under their feet. Artistically, it was a masterpiece though it did raise unsettling questions.

Jo'ren neither cared much for nor understood art. Unless it was martial art. So his suggestion that the artist needed to add more lightsaber to the piece hadn't worked out particularly well. The painting showed Darth Vengean proudly trying to lead the Empire to victory against the Republic, but Darth Marr stood in his way. With some lightsabers.

To be honest Jo'ren wasn't too sure what it was all about when he was stood there looking at it with Ashley's notes. So it goes.

Standing tall, with dead eyes of a man in despair, a man held an older woman in his arms. A dagger rested underneath her head, pointing away toward the right side of the image, blood dripping from it's blade. The woman, clad in the elegant attire of a most noble family held onto her stomach where blood poured out over her fingers. Eyes of the woman had lost their light, as the soul has left her body.

It was a dark image, painted in the most dark and heavy colors. For viewers the painting held a quality that left their heart sullen from the loss of the son of his mother.

A most masterful piece, but it was not aided by Kristal's presentation of it. Thankfully, it was not something she needed to present for long and she quickly saw herself away into the party.
